Manna‘s Blackbird album will be released via Soliti on the 24th Oct. Following lead single Troublebirds, we give another hint of what you’ll find under the covers of Blackbird with new single Mobile released today 7th October.
Oceans is the alias by which 19yr old Efe Tekkanat delivers his homespun tales of yearning and life. Efe had tried honing a songwriting style via former punk band BlindSide. Moving on from punk led Efe to Ableton Live, which in turn became an avenue for Efe to channel his style and deliver short electronic songs that best showcased his songwriting. Thus, Oceans was born.
Black Twig‘s Halfways, the opening track from sophomore album Heliogram, delivers dream like states of ringing guitar notes and punctuated rhythm (and yes the guitar break is pure Loaded). A looping chord sequence moves to the left and then right, but returns to the elegant motoric jangle. Johanna Heikkilä‘s film creates the perfect accompaniment to Halfways. The 1990’s home footage rarely varies, but creates it’s own altered state of repetition, comparable to Warhol‘s beach voyeurism combined with the jump/cut glitch of experimentation.
Sister Flo’s Tragician’s Hat Anniversary Edition is out today (hurrah). The limited 2 cd & first time on vinyl sets are available now and will not be repressed, so please pick up your copy from the following (NB: 2 cd set only available in physical format):
