As the Summer arrives Black Lizard reveal their new video/single Boundaries. Taken from their self titled full length album, Boundaries shows a fuller side to the band’s razor sharp rock n roll delivery. The self directed promo sees the band roam a desolate beach landscape littered with the odd instrument and Black Lizard‘s laconic presence.

To make our second birthday all the more special, the call went out to all the Soliti bands to see if they had any material for a birthday compilation. Lo and behold Soliti Turns Two: Odds, Sods & Found Sounds was born. Demos, new songs & old unreleased gems from the whole Soliti roster: The New Tigers, Black Lizard, Delay Trees, Cats On Fire, Astrid Swan, Black Twig, Big Wave Riders & Paperfangs. Get the stories behind the songs from the track list below, spread the word and enjoy!
All tracks available to stream/download. (tracks can also be found individually from our Soundcloud)
Soliti Turns Two : Odds, Sods & Found Sounds (Soliti 016)
1. The New Tigers : New Tigers Pt 1. “New Tigers pt.1 was the first ever thing recorded by The New Tigers. It was recorded in the summer of 2007 when the band was only a trio of Appu, Kece and Valtteri. It was supposed to be the first chapter of a trilogy. The second part was never recorded, but part 3 can be found from the rare “New Tigers Sampler” EP. This song is as short as a chicken’s flight.” The New Tigers 2. Paperfangs : Boy (demo) “Here’s a demo track called Boy. Some of it is old and some of it is new (borrowed and blue too)” Paperfangs 3. Black Twig : Antichrist (4 track demo) “We think this is the first recorded version of the song, captured on a 4 track cassette recorder in a wooden house near Hollola. Aki wrote the basic track, but Janne M. came up with the bridge part before the ending solo, and it fit the song perfectly. We didn’t change much of it for the album, just recorded it again.” Black Twig 4. Astrid Swan : Yearning to Hold Still (demo) “Back in 2010 I made a transition from really crap use of garageband to real basic use of Logic. This is my last garageband demo of a song that will appear on Astrid4. Because it was made in 2010 you can hear some of the Hits (Pavement fir Girls) sound on it, the album version coming in the autumn is very different. That said, let me just tell you that I hate demos and survive mostly without them. I’m too impatient. I don’t even write down any chords for my songs these days and it gets me in trouble…because I forget. Happy 2nd B-day Soliti!” Astrid Swan 5. Black Lizard : Desolation Kids Firmly established as one of Black Lizard’s live standards, Desolation Kids is a song about getting older. An exclusive outtake from their recent self-titled debut album. Black Lizard 6. Cats On Fire : A Different Light (2011 demo) “Cats on Fire would like to congratulate themselves on being so thorough with the preparatory work for “All Blackshirts to Me”. They report that they have excellent demo versions of all the songs on the album and that the elefant in the room is the fact that the whole album was more or less recorded twice.” Cats On Fire 7. Big Wave Riders : Acid (demo) “Last year I listened to acid house music a lot.” Big Wave Riders 8. Delay Trees : Kingo (demo) A super rarity from Delay Trees, Kingo dates back to their first demo recordings circa 2007/08. Delay Trees
Soliti Turns Two has a cover design by Teppo Meriläinen and four different shades for you to use. Extra thanks to all the bands who made this happen. Enjoy!
Moving on from the Pavement covers album (the first Soliti release), Astrid Swan readies her new album – her first self-penned material since 2009. Listen to new track In My Own House – part Brill Building, part electro-shock-therapy-ballad, In My Own House has a slow burn atmosphere building to an intense finale. Swan’s new album Astrid4 should be with us late Autumn 2013.
Prefix magazine premiered the track last night “Stark piano prelude, skeletol electro hisses, and abrupt percussion thumps all subserve to the impassioned poignancy of Swan’s vocals as the track climaxes to a tamed denouement.”
You can catch Astrid Swan live this month on 24.05. Sellosali, Espoo (+ Aino Venna)
KUUNTELE UUSI ASTRID SWAN BIIISI & NÄE LIVENÄ Pavement -coverlevyn jälkeen Astrid Swan siirtyy kohti seuraavaa albumiaan, joka sisältää vain itsekirjoitettu lauluja.
