Cats of Transnistria is the Helsinki based duo of Tuomas Alatalo and Henna Emilia Hietamäki. They create slow and hypnotic music, filled with both experimental noise and lots of sensitivity and softness. We are delighted to add Cats of Transnistria to our growing Soliti family.
“We are really close friends and used to play together in a rock group for many years. Cats of Transnistria was born when we started to compose songs together in a bedroom. We had no clear plans or references, but suddenly the direction was very clear. We had accidentally managed to do something that felt really good at heart. Our songs tend to be quite dark, but they really make us smile.”
Ahead of their debut EP which comes through Soliti in early January, watch the video for the EP’s lead track Good Night
Good Night was one of the first songs that Cats of Transnistria started to play. For a long time the song’s working title was “The Fog Song”. It’s an alliance of hypnotic tremolo guitar, soft organ walls and dreamy, longing vocals.
“The song is about the beautiful details one should think about when trying to get some sleep. Instead of all the brutal difficulties it is good to, for example, imagine still lakes and velvet green leaves shivering in trees.”
