Ocelot announce new album Siskoni on noita and share new video/single “Prinssi/Pikkuveli”

Siskoni on noita is released via Soliti Recordings on 20th September 2024

Ocelot announce their second full length album release, Siskoni on noita – which arrives via Soliti on the 20th September 2024. Siskoni on noita (My sister is a witch) further enhances Ocelot’s unique worldview and minimalist sound textures but with a newfound confidence,  a stronger sense of rhythm and melodicism. All this is achieved without ever sacrificing the essence of Ocelot’s inner postmodern aesthetic.

Along with the album announcement, Ocelot share new single/video “Prinssi/Pikkuveli”, a colourful, driving and boogie counterpoint to the chromatic drama of recent single “Sun silmillä”
””Prinssi/Pikkuveli” is a straightforward piano tune. It is inspired by my experience down at the Men in Music Business Conference when I was 19 years old. The Prinssi/Pikkuveli (Prince/Little brother) character is a kind of archetype that also extends outside the music industry. I don’t know who exactly it is about, but I have met him multiple times throughout my life, and I just keep seeing him.” Emilia Pennanen explains.

Prinssi/Pikkuveli” is released on the 19th July 2024.

”The idea for the video was to expand on the straightforward lyrics about the archetype that is the little brother/prince/male artist. We thought about how parents, and society at large, indulge but shelter men growing up and give a duality of messages about how they should express their feelings. They are expected to be emotionally restrained and composed but at the same time encouraged to express themselves artistically and creatively without boundaries. As a society we collectively support the narrative of the man as the centre and hero of the stories of our daily lives. What easily happens is that they grow up with difficulties expressing themselves emotionally and when they do it often comes from a narcissistic place in the form of the “male artist”. In the video we wanted to explore these themes in a playful way. We created a theatre-play-like universe for this little prince that lives within his own ego and his fantasy world of illusion of self-grandiosity, but at the same time he is probably very lonely and looking for a real connection. We don’t know who he is, but we have met him before and keep seeing parts of him in the men we meet in our daily lives. The place itself is an abstract natural place that is, on one hand the actual main character, on the other, just a pedestal for the little prince. The video was shot in Portugal.” – Noa P. Initial Reaction

“That bouncing bar-room piano playfully sets the song afire, but it’s the overlapping vocals that drive the hook from the chorus deep into your soul.” Austin Town Hall

“If the previous single ‘Sun silmillä’ was a downtempo song in the middle of the night, this song has a brighter atmosphere, like a boogie in the middle of the day. From monochrome to color.” Niche Music

“And the vocal is that same beguiling one of Emilia’s that I’ve remarked on before; one that suggests she’s ever so slightly bonkers. Give it a try, you’ll love it.” Nordic Music Central

“a great new single” Rumba

“There’s a great new Ocelot single” One Chord to Another

“For the video, we wanted to expand on the themes of the song in a playful way. We created a theatrical universe for this little prince who lives inside his own ego and a fantasy world of illusion and self-grandiosity, but at the same time he is probably very lonely and searching for a real connection.” Short interview via Revista Arte Brasileira

Of Siskoni on noita Ocelot tell us
“Siskoni on noita is a collage of characters, looks and self-portraits. A world where visitors, travellers, princes, witches, exes, thieves in the night, forgotten first loves, estranged siblings, tourists and unknown bodies flow through memories, songs and dreams.
It is an embracing of the strange and an acceptance of the ordinary.
The rejection and shaping of other people’s gaze.
It is a whirlpool of stories of perpetual instability, uncertainty and love between people.
It is a mirror with a face looking back.”

Recent press for Ocelot’s “Sun silmillä”

“I love the way it works with this incredible beat underneath; the guitar slides up and down, just as the drums snap, all of it working under this intoxicating groove.” Austin Town Hall

“This band has an extraordinary design.” Niche Music

“The vocals are simply chill, and the hooks grab you from the first seconds. The gloomy synth atmosphere adds a cinematic flair and style to the track. This the music you can dream to and just relax.” Soundville

“As with most inverted dreams, perhaps our innate quest for liberation often reduces our desires to the most basic and acquiescent needs.” Soulwavez

“…the song’s mesmerising vibe transcends language barriers, instantly drawing listeners in. The dreamy production is enchanting, and the lead singer’s raspy vocals are a delight.” DNü

“The gentle touch of the waves and the coolness of the air could bring this lovely melancholy melody to my ears as I gaze at the horizon. The vocals matched so well with their almost whispering timbre convey the mystery to me.” Nagamag
