The third of Local Al’s EP trilogy arrives today via Soliti
Local Al’s EP3 is out on today (November 15th ) – the EP’s themes are about loss, grief and dark places.
Aleksi Pahkala, known for his bands The Duplo! and Gim Kordon, released his first EP (EP1) early summer and the second EP (EP2) followed just a few months later. Both of these releases have helped establish Local Al‘s unique blend of indie and electronica.

‘Arlesin talvi’: Arles is in southern France, near Marseille. It’s a small city filled with history and stories from the past and is part of the UNESCO world heritage project. In its history you can find Julius Caesar and the Romans, the biggest river delta in western Europe with horses and bulls, and of course, art. Vincent Van Gogh and Picasso spent one of their most prolific times in Arles. The city also stole Local Al’s heart, whilst on a honeymoon with his wife.
‘Läpi pimeän’: Local Al’s music is a genre defying mix of eclectic sounds and emotions.. This dark instrumental song is a good example of that. With ‘Läpi pimeän’ Pahkala is moving somewhere between the sounds textures of Four Tet and Thom Yorke, adding elements of Finnish melancholy and the feeling from dark November nights.
‘Peilistä tuijottaa vanha mies’: Pahkala takes us through the process of grief after losing his father. Losing someone close to you can leave a mark and an enormous sadness is cast upon you whilst longing for the ones you’ve lost. In time, grief might turn into warm memories and the daily longing might turn into a friend you can’t live without. Pahkala has several times found himself looking into a mirror, seeing his father in the reflection.
‘Mikä on vointi tänään?’: The last track of the EP lets the listener float in a dreamy moment. Musically speaking this song is inspired by the early releases from labels such as Source and Record Makers, blending early 90’s sampling and indie music.
